Thanks to all the Yelp reviews we stopped here today for a late breakfast/early lunch. This is a really cute café with great service and really good food. Best hash browns I've ever had and the sausage patty they served with my breakfast was out of this world. I highly recommend the pancakes as well but avoid the biscuits and gravy (just ok). Definitely stop here if you're driving 101 or staying in the Manzanita area.

I was glad I found this place. Great food and a really friendly waitress. I'd like to go back if I'm in the area again. (visited June 4th around 2:30 p.m.)

I have been looking for the perfect grilled cheese sandwich (with Tillamook Cheese) in the area and may have found it. Grilled to perfection - not greasy and not burned and on sourdough bread. Friendly wait staff (only one) and interesting conversastion with a local. Next time I'll try a couple of slices of the homemade pie.

On our way to the beach we were looking for some "home food" and found this gem on a side street. A classic diner that spends all energy on its food. We were so hungry and relied on our waitress for some of her favorites. I had the tuna melt, which was served perfectly grilled with tuna that had just the right amount of mayo, cheddar cheese (my choice) lettuce and tomatoes, and a side of homemade french fries that were so delish. (Our waitress told us they make them to order.) Hubs had a burger that looked great, and he devoured it. It was thick and juicy, with all the trimmings, also served with homemade fries. As we were eating, our waitress (I wish I had asked her name!) walked by with a fresh homemade marionberry pie, so of course I ordered a slice. Hubs ordered a slice of cheesecake, also homemade. Of course we also ordered coffee! Pie came with a huge pile of whipped cream and that crust was so nice and flaky. The filling was thick and sweet and the tart berries made it heavenly. Hubs said cheesecake was perfect. We left full and happy, and so glad we "discovered" Downie's.

My wife and and I got some hearty breakfast food that tasted great. My mom got a burger and loved it. All the food we had was great and the service was outstanding. The staff really made us feel welcome! We tried this place on our way to the coast, based on the Yelp reviews and it was well worth the stop. We would absolutely go back again. ***Cash only! Make sure you come with cash or run next door to the convenience store and use the ATM.

This place has the best breakfast in Tillamook county. The breakfast is made by scratch. They are very fast getting the food out. The owners are very friendly and they talk to the people eating at there tables. But over all great place to eat at.

Initial Impression- place is very small, seat yourself joint. There's usually only one waitress and one cook, there's a second cook on the weekends for when it's busy though. The waitress is very friendly. Also this is a CASH OR LOCAL CHECKS ONLY. Food- the coffee here is dark and strong, exactly how I like it, so A+ there. They do have cream and sugar for those who like it. Every time we've gone we have gotten the same items: the French toast with a side of eggs and bacon and the Farmers omelette. The French toast is run of the mill stuff, white bread with a standard egg coating but it just has this simplicity to it, reminds of my childhood and having mom make Saturday morning breakfast. The farmers omelette has to be one the largest breakfast items here. Mushrooms, onions, chunks of sausage all wrapped up in soft fluffy pillow of eggs then smothered in the house gravy, so good. Plus you get a choice of toast AND a side of hash browns. I'll be honest though, the hash browns are not really great and is probably the only reason this isn't a five star review. Overall- Small diner that's perfect for the locals. Been here three times now since moving to Bay City from Southern California and the waitress remembers my fiancé and I every time. If you're passing through the area, I would definitely make a stop for breakfast, if there's seating available. It's a place for regulars and locals, so it's worth a try.

My brothers and I stopped in here while in town because so many people spoke highly of it. We either just caught them on an off day or people have low expectations for breakfast while in the Tillamook area. I have no complaints, the food was just basic and adequate. Maybe I went in with my expectations too high only to be unreasonably disappointed when my expectations weren't met. There may be a reason there are only locals in there. The food is fine, just not anything to go out of your way for. The people working were top notch though. They were friendly, attentive and genuinely nice people; it was a pleasure to meet them. The cinnamon rolls were great and worth going in for.

This place is quaint and delicious! My girls ordered a strawberry pancake which was divine and they were so kind to split it in the back for us! Made from scratch biscuits are so delicious as is their sausage gravy. Farmers omlete was so good and the hash browns were just like my dad makes at home! Highly recommended!

First off, Downie's is a CASH-ONLY establishment, which is good to know before you arrive with only 3 dollars in your pocket. Fortunately there was a sign on the door, but still. This is a tidy little mom n pop place. When I walked in, it appeared to be populated only by a handful of locals, and the two women working in the kitchen told me to have a seat anywhere. I ordered coffee and the eggs Benedict. The Benedict was pretty tasty, including what appeared to be house-made hollandaise sauce. The hashbrowns were the perfect combination of crispy and soft--just good, simple food. The coffee was pretty disappointing, but I guess I might have high expectations on that topic (Portland coffee has spoiled me altogether). All in all, a decent place. I'll be back in the area for work on and off, and if I get the opportunity to go to Downie's again I will most likely do so.

Small place attached to a market. We came for lunch. Limited menu. I had oyster stew which was part of the soup menu. My wife had clam chowder. Mine was good. The chowder was OK. Features burgers and sandwiches. Also had a few lunch plates. Had p&b good for kids.

Would not have known this place existed absent Yelp. The food and service were really good. I had the oysters, which were awesome.

Went back again with Ms. K. and a few friends/family this past weekend. Again had a great time and really enjoyed the food. Cheese omelet - solid. Chocolate peanut butter pie = awesome. Strawberry shortcake = delicious Off the menu, vegetarian Egg McMuffin-ish sandwich they made for my brother = awesome and very much appreciated. Good stuff. Give it a try.

We decides to go based on the reviews and glad we did. Best home made cinnamon rolls! Breakfast was good and service was even better. Small, local, clean and friendly atmosphere. We will come again.

Very good breakfast. The omelets were large and filled with creamy Tillamook cheese. The potatoes were good. My wheat toast was a little stale but my husband pointed out that I'm probably the only customer who doesn't order sourdough! I might have given this breakfast a 5 in Texas, but since moving to Washington my standards have raised considerably, and I now reserve 5's for places that go above and beyond with homemade bread, jams, etc.

Pros: Good pancakes! Cons: grilled oyster sandwich was revolting service (we were the only customers in the restaurant, and the waitress had a hard time pulling herself away from chatting with her friends in the kitchen and was really curt when she did manage to come over to the table)

Following local recommendations for a good, local, seafood dinner, in August 07 we stopped in for the first night Downie's was open again for dinner service. We were impressed with the homemade quality of the food, homestyle entrees with a coastal flair, and good portions for the price ($10-14 a person). Service was very friendly, like sharing a dining room with newly found friends. That Downie's isn't much larger than a dining room certainly helped carry the mood. None of the fish is harvested locally--we couldn't find any restaurants that did serve such--but it was tasty. It was the service that set it a notch above for us. We felt welcomed like locals, and took some time to chill out in the peacefulness of the Oregon Coast, eating something that tasted "local." The homemade clam chowder really made an impression as did the flaky and slightly tart homemade marionberry pie. In this nondescript cafe just north of Tillamook in Bay City, tucked out of sight from the coastal highway, we enjoyed an hour of warmth and comfort that felt almost like family. We'd love to stop in again to Downie's if we visit Tillamook and the region again. === 2010 summer update: Driving the Oregon coast we made it a point to hit Downie's for lunch. It appears that dinner service is unavailable again, but they were open for lunch all the same. The service and experience wasn't as charming as our visit in '07 but the food was still good. I'd need to knock 'em down a star if it wasn't for the fresh marionberry pie. :-)

A small place with very good food in a casual, friendly atmosphere. Owned by the same family for 31 years and it shows! Worth going a little extra distance.

Classic American café food at its best. My husband and I thoroughly enjoy their breakfast and lunch menu and we're really excited about trying their new dinner menu! We love this family owned and run hometown treasure.
